Background:
Prince is from a small remote mountain village in Haiti called Pilate. In 2014, he moved to the Dominican Republic after graduating high school in Haiti, to pursue higher education and become a doctor. His dream is to someday use medicine to serve his people and bring the love of God to Haiti through physical and spiritual healing. While working different jobs to put himself through medical school, Prince quickly taught himself both English and Spanish, and was able to become a translator to a local ministry receiving teams from across the US. In 2017, God brought a brother into his life to disciple him in Christ and who also helped him develop his skills in carpentry and woodworking. Prince quickly realized his gift in the area and was able to start a small carpentry business which continues paying for his education today. He began to dream about someday helping other young men in a similar position not only find ways to support them, their families, and futures, but also to love them and disciple them the same way that he had been. Current ministry: The Blue House (Casa Azul) Now, as Prince approaches the finish line with his own education, hoping to graduate medical school in 2024, God has opened the doors he had dreamed of. In collaboration with a group of people trying to do God’s will in the DR, Prince has begun a training school to equip a group of local boys to learn the trade of woodworking, and also speak life over them and push them deeper into relationship with their Creator. Ministry Location: Hoya del Caimito The community that the boys involved are from is called Hoya del Caimito and is situated in a major flood area in the northern region of Santiago, Dominican Republic. This area is majority Haitian immigrants and lower-class Dominican residents. Prince and his family have lived in this community for the past few years and have deep relationships with many people there. It is a difficult place, with plenty of crime, flooding, and with a severe lack of infrastructure. The boys in this community are often forced to quit high school before graduating in order to work and help their families. Through the training program, the goal is to give these kids an opportunity to learn a valuable and marketable skill, without sacrificing their education. The hope is that they will be able to utilize these skills well into the future and—most importantly—build a strong foundation of faith in the process. Get Involved: Prayer & Support Another element that is at war in this community is Voodoo and spiritual warfare which is very prevalent in the Haitian culture. Prince and everyone working on this project need your prayers to cover over them for protection physically and spiritually, and the success in this mission as the enemy seeks to see them defeated. Lastly, please consider joining in financial support for Prince and his family as he wholeheartedly pursues this opportunity God has put together in Hoya del Caimito. |
